A plague is coming—a new social network. Currently, it exists as a mobile app where we release our posts into the world, decorate them with photos, and watch as our thoughts infect others. There is no building your own group of friends here; the post simply goes out to everyone. It feels something like (as one Plague user put it)
All users are connected into one network from the very beginning. The map marks the point of infection, i.e., where the information was posted, and from there, the network takes over.
You can pass on any information you see to the users nearest to you by swiping the message up on your screen, or you can deem it uninteresting and not worth spreading further by swiping it down. This method acts as a form of verification for the value of a given message. At the moment, there is no hype or super important viral content yet—that will happen if this concept catches on with users. But for me, this idea is an interesting alternative to Facebook, and in line with the concept, interesting information will spread on its own like a virus.
