As you probably all know, on February 18, 2021, the Perseverance rover landed on Mars at 21:55 Polish time. Its task will be to collect rock samples from a place where scientists suspect a Martian river may have once flowed. The research aims to search for life. This event is also an occasion to celebrate for Linux fans. The rover brought with it the Ingenuity drone, a 1.8-kilogram, autonomous flying companion that runs on Linux.
The news about Linux on Mars was boasted by Tim Canham, a software engineer for NASA's aviation systems, during an interview with IEEE Spectrum.
You can learn more about the drone itself from Wikipedia and the official Mars Helicopter project website.
