Users of the free office suite LibreOffice can now try out the new, refreshed version 5.3, which is considered the richest in new features to date. At the moment, this release is aimed primarily at enthusiasts and is not considered a "production-ready" stable version. Among the new features, you can find the modern MUFFIN (My User Friendly & Flexible Interface) user interface; while it is not exactly the "Ribbon" known from Microsoft products, it is quite similar in appearance when using the Notebookbar mode. This mode is optional. For those who are "keyboard-savvy," a minimalist mode with a single toolbar (which can be placed on the side) is sufficient, leaving more space for document editing. The layout has also been modified and is now consistent across all supported systems. Version 5.3 also includes support for legacy StarOffice binary files, Microsoft Office files with RC4 encryption, and the ability to use PDF files in the same way as image files.
