Currently on the web, practically on every website, everyone is announcing the arrival of a certain revolution that changes the way we use the Internet and the currently available search engines. From now on, for a given question we can receive an answer not as a list of links to browse but as a response resembling a dialogue with a human. I tested it on myself and it indeed makes an impression. Especially when we want to acquire knowledge in hard sciences such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, or programming. Could this be the beginning of the end for services like Stack Overflow? After all, why dig through tons of example answers and test them when you can get already verified and working solutions. But are those really verified and working? For a long time there has been a tendency to send one's own brain on vacation, because every needed piece of information is available straight from our pocket, and in such a setup, why waste time on something as pointless as memorizing. It's enough to be able to find it. Will solutions based on Chat GTP become truth‑tellers and provide us with solutions for every occasion, stripping part of humanity of their work by simply replacing them? Somewhere you also hear voices that Skynet has been brought to life ;) . It’s interesting how far the creators of such solutions will go. Could Chat GTP in any way threaten us? Should we be afraid of it? To start, I’ll ask it to simply introduce itself. Below you can see what Chat GTP says about itself. As can be observed, communication with the chat takes place in a very simple way, resembling a regular web chat that we have known for many years. It looks like a conversation with a colleague on a messenger. The answers appear very thoughtful and are highly precise. This algorithm ensures that the conversation stays in a single thread; subsequent questions can refer to previous ones and will be understood as a continuity of the discussion. It would be best if it tells us more about itself.
The solution has become mature and attractive enough that Microsoft decided to implement it in its search engine Bing as a competitive element against Google. Will this be a home run? We'll probably find out in due time. Not all Bing users immediately get access to the new capabilities related to Chat GTP, but you can sign up for the waiting list and eventually this feature will become available to us as well. Microsoft has not abandoned traditional search. It will be a kind of hybrid that enables the familiar way of searching the Internet and receiving a list of links with Chat GTP support.
As you can see in this example search using Bing. On the left side we have the standard list of links containing pages that answer the posed question, and on the right a pane appears where we can have a conversation with the GPT chat. The right‑hand pane allows us to go to the chat or use suggested continuations, delving deeper into the initially asked topic.
After selecting the chat option I can continue the conversation, probing for topics that interest me. Here I decided to ask for additional movies based on true events about ancient Rome. The chat eagerly took up the conversation and presented me with a list of film suggestions I asked for. The original window on the OpenAI site, however, appealed to me more.
If we already get access to the GPT chat capabilities in Bing, we will no longer need to create an additional account beyond the one we already have on Microsoft’s site. To use the official chat page, however, you still need to register there beforehand.
Use Cases
Immediately after gaining access to this tool I naturally wanted to surprise it with an unexpected question and see how it would handle it. The questions were of all kinds and the strangest topics, and I must admit the solution dealt with them very well.
As you can see, the questions range from A to Z, and this tool still managed to pull something out of them and craft a professional answer. I therefore decided to test its programming capabilities.
Questions can be asked both in English and in Polish. We can also mix both languages in a single query, and the tool handles that as well.
Everything indicates that basic interview questions on operating systems or programming would be handled without issue. Are you curious what the most common questions are, for example, about Linux systems according to this tool?
And that’s it, from now on anyone can be a recruiter.
If you want to automate something using Ansible but have no idea how to start or write your own playbook, you can also get hints here with additional explanations of what and how the written code works.
